A new way to watch the Academy Awards
02.03.2011
Hollywood had the biggest party of the year at the Academy Awards and everyone was invited. While millions of people watched stars get their awards on TV, my friends and I were backstage watching Natalie Portman get ready and listening to Colin Firth talk about his nomination for The King’s Speech.
Don’t get too excited! We weren’t actually at the awards, which happened at the Kodak Theater on Hollywood Boulevard. We were at our own party, where we used cool new apps like Oscars Backstage Pass, which allowed us to watch from eight different cameras, and Live from the Red Carpet, which had exclusive interviews with stars about what they were wearing, to feel like we were there.
People don’t want to just watch big sport and show business events like the Super Bowl and the Grammy Awards on TV. They want to experience them with their friends. And that’s why companies are making apps that allow viewers to watch these events from different cameras, get extra news and information and share their predictions with their friends. Many people believe that apps like these are the reason why this year’s Grammy Awards had the highest number of viewers in ten years.
My friends and I always have an Academy Awards party, where we get together to watch the show, put sweets in a bowl and compete for the sweets by making predictions about who is going to win every award. I used an app called Vanity Fair Hollywood: Oscars Edition to find out about the most popular predictions. It was fun but I still didn’t win the sweets. Oh well, better luck next year!
