147 million is a lot of money!
In my opinion, the probability of winning the lottery is so small that I don't usually bother playing. I do indulge occassionally, but I've never won, of course. (If I had, I would have written a blog about that instead...) Still, someone has to win and this gives everyone a bit of hope.
In Italy, lottery players have had a lot of hope recently. Until last weekend, nobody had cracked the lottery jackpot since January, which meant the winnings grew and grew - to 147 million euros! But that changed on Saturday. A lottery player in the Tuscan town of Bagnone bought a two-euro ticket in his local coffee bar - and guessed the right numbers! So what will this lucky player do with all that money? Here are a few suggestions:
He could ...
- treat everyone in Italy to a slice of pizza to celebrate!
- go to the Oktoberfest next month and pay for ALL of the beer - 6.5 million litres! He would still have enough money to buy half a chicken for every visitor.
- buy the best footballer in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo, to play for Bagnone's local team. Manchester United recently sold Ronaldo for 94 million euros, so he'd still have around 50 million to pay Ronaldo's salary!
- rent famous bands and pop stars like Madonna, The Ting Tings or 50 Cent to sing at his birthday for the rest of his life!
- purchase Buckingham Palace from the Queen and still have around 80 million euros to spend.
- buy his own private island in every continent in the world, and his own private jet to get there!
If the winner put all 147 million euros into a normal savings account, he would earn around 12,000 euros in interest every day!
So what would you do?
